The New October 1st 2025, Tariffs on Drugs

The federal government has announced new import tariffs—basically extra taxes—on certain brand-name and patented drugs made outside the U.S. The goal is to push companies to manufacture more of these medicines domestically. These tariffs kick in on October 1st, 2025, and could raise costs on some imported medications.
Not every drug will be affected. If a manufacturer is actively building or expanding a U.S. plant, they can qualify for an exemption. Generics, many biosimilars, and drugs already made in the U.S. are not expected to see the same tariffs.”
What does that mean for you as a patient? And how will hospitals and clinics respond? Today, we’re breaking down what’s coming and what you can do about it.
